Dear Friends,
The weather is making headlines this year! As I write, terrible storms are rolling through the south, taking the lives of students and adults alike. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved and we all must do our part to assist the Red Cross and other humanitarian agencies. (Remember that new supplies of blood are always needed. Call the Red Cross at 845-2751.)
In the last issue, I asked that you “stay tuned” as the fruit-growers were at a critical point for the year’s crops. Another week of warm weather could have been disastrous. But…Hoorah! Winter came and February was a gem except for the buildup of slush that froze like a brick. Getting around in pruning the trees was a huge challenge for our men.
Look for the branches of apricot, plum and peach trees that I bring into the market. Their buds will be forced to swell and burst into bloom. What a precious act of nature to behold. Later on, in April (for apricots, plums and peaches) and in early May (for apples), come and enjoy nature’s miracle of life that will bring your fruit in our orchards.
With Brown’s in its 60th year and continuing to grow, we felt it was time to pause, to look at ourselves in a mirror and do some strategic planning for the future. What are our strengths and where can we do better? Where do we want to be in 5 or 10 years?
To help in our discussions, we wanted to hear from the customers themselves. Five of our “shoppers” graciously agreed to join with our staff. Their insight and comments were invaluable to our discussion. Credit goes to our son, David, and to facilitator, Michelle Baker for planning and carrying out the day long retreat. A plan of action is being drafted and priorities will be revisited on a periodic basis.
We are committed to serving you and we welcome your suggestions, in person or by a note (P.O. Box 154, Loganville PA), email (info@brownsorchards.com) or in our suggestion box in the lobby.
Until next time, welcome spring and keep enjoying those nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables!!
Stan
